Weston Cougar Repair

Paul's Cougar Repair Progress Report

The thin ply inserts now fitted within the fuselage and some balsa filling has been added together with the jigsaw of bits of balsa recovered. Initial sanding of the front of the fuselage complete but some wood filler needed and final sanding. Rear of fuselage filling will follow.

Hi Mike - looking good.

I have come to the conclusion that this plane's fuselage is the most battered and damaged i have ever attempted to repair, even worse than your's Pete as it is evident it has crashed and been repaired before. Having worked on three Cougars it is interesting that there are variations on the locations of the throttle servo however they all seem to be glued to the fuselage with balsa spacers etc. I will have to let Paul re-fix the throttle servo. What is also surprising is that both the wings and tail-planes / fins do not appear to suffer much in crashes?

This morning I used some wood filler on the fuselage which I am about to sand outside the garage once the rain squalls cease.

:( i knew i'd done a proper job on her :(
I know u like a challenge but i don't mind getting new airframe think the new cougar comes out next month ;) honestly if it too much don't worry appreciate your help and company at the field :) As for the throttle servo it was kinda bugging me that the arm wasn't central so will be able to do it now ;)

Paul the fuselage apart from covering and the internal linkages plus servo tray is complete, the tail plane is repaired and I am now working on the minor indentation of the wings. By next week it will be finished I think. It is fairly evident that some of the balsa strip in the wings and tail has been crushed but I have replaced / repaired it as necessary. I assume you are OK with some different colours on the plane?
