Veron Mini Concord

This plane dates back to the 1970's and was designed for single channel radio. I bought a kit from a South Croydon model shop 'Heset model Supplies' that was closing up in 1976. There was little stock left at the time but I also bought an OS 10 RC plus an Enya 09 for control line and a Keil Kraft Spectre. I left it till about 1986 to build the Mini Concord when I was about to move into our current home. I stored the plane plus most of my tools and other aeromodelling stuff in a lock-up garage with a view to collecting it after moving in. Trouble is some scumbag broke into the garage and stole almost everything apart from the Mini Concord wings which I just dumped in my garden shed about 23 years ago. then came E-bay and I picked up a Mini Concord from a Croydon club member who claims to have visited our club on one of the recent 'fly-in' days. The plane has never flown and will take a small amount of building including the installation of the OS 10.It will be an excellent S Cart for the Medway free flight and radio assist fly in days.

PS someone tell Gary there is a guy in Dover selling a KK Falcon

co pilot

pictures may not represent actual product
The instructor no longer needs a transmitter. During prototype testing, persons who have never flown a model are becoming competent to fly complete flights, including unassisted landing within just as few flights.

The task of flight instruction is reduced to the simple, quiet reminder to the pilot, "center the sticks" when he makes an error that might normally crash the model.

Landings are instructed by directing him to "line it up with the runway" then to "throttle back". Co-Pilot holds the wings and nose level and the model descends to land nearly automatically.

In a helicopter equipped with Co-Pilot and with a gyro for tail rotor, one can lift into hover with collective pitch, then set the transmitter down until the fuel runs out and the helicopter will remain where it is as long as no wind is present to cause translation. Even if there are strong winds present, Co-Pilot will keep a helicopter in level hover.

The Remote ON/OFF of the FSU is adjustable so that it can be set to make controls as stiff or as loose as you like. Thus, the helicopter can be made to respond just slightly to full stick until one is confident of control.

The sailplane pilot can seek a thermal, set rudder for a circling, flat turn, and Co-Pilot will hold the wings and the nose level to keep it in the thermal.

The unit is small and light enough for use in slow/park flyers.

Co-Pilot includes an interactive pre-flight setup process to check weather conditions and adjust the unit for optimum performance. The sensors may be located anywhere on the outside of the model where it can "see" the horizon in all directions, except in the exhaust stream where oil might deposit on the sensor windows.

Specifications:
Inputs aileron, elevator, and aux for Remote switched or fully proportional
Enable from the receiver;
Outputs pitch (elevator) and roll (aileron or rudder) via Normal servo cables;
System weight 1.00 ounces;
Sensor dimensions 1.35" (octagonal) by 0.53" thick;
Microprocessor 1.50" x 0.89" x 0.60";
Power consumption 5 ma.

NOTES:
1) The current CoPilot does not handle CCPM helicopters or aircraft configurations that include differential ailerons or flapperons. The CoPilot will only operate in aircraft that use one servo for pitch and one servo for roll controls.
2) If you operate a Futaba or JR PCM radio please refer to the faq section for additional information. As a general rule, the CoPilot (CPD4) is not compatible with digital servos. The computer module is not designed to handle the high resolution required by digital servos.

Gatwick Aircraft Museum

The location of the museum is adjacent to the flight path of Gatwick Airport. The day I spent there with Paul Holyhead and his son Harry (Famous for crashing Alistaire's trainer at our 2008 open day) was most enjoyable with model planes on display plus full size military aircraft plus the museum. There are two Avro Shackletons one of which is accessible (See photo), and on occaisions they run up the Griffon engines on this plane but not the jet assist engines. Currently they are bringing an EE lightning up to engine run standards. The museum guides are real aircraft 'buffs' and at least one used to fly in the Shackleton and spent about an hour giving us details of his flying experiences.

There are open days listed on their website http://www.gatwick-aviation-museum.co.uk/ plus admission by appointment, tel/ fax 01293 862915 ; mobile 07836 666817 e-mail GPVGAT@AOL.COM Address, Vallance By-Ways,Lowfield Heath Road,charlwood,surrey,RH6 0BT

Competition Answer

Barry has been calling for over 4 years now and sometimes brings a couple of cubs along so perhaps should be called Barb unless someone can think of a different name?----Perhaps Broken Wing can video Barry sometime if the camera can be fixed to a slice of bread?

Just testing.

This is my first go at adding a picture to this new site, so as I seem to have missed out on flying lately and have no new plane pictures,this is a competition to identify the attached white dots.

Save Our BBQ

If you would like to carry on enjoying the weekend BBQ's now that the colder months are upon us, it would be really helpful if while on your daily travels you could look out for BBQ charcoal as we have none left :-( .

We are planning on taking the barbi to the Medway firework fly-in day so it would be great if you could bring your bags of coal along. Your money will be reimbursed.

Thanks, see you there.

Good talk at last nights meeting on "insurance" by the BMFA.
Never knew it was so involved - or that so much was covered.
You live and learn.

Well done getting the chap along.
