Hi guys - Me and Paul went flying at Detling and there were four others at the hill by the time we got there - we all had fun.

Not That Long Ago...

Slope Soaring Again - Why don't you try it!

Windy again - Me and Mike went to Detling slope soaring and as it's Wednesday we never expected anyone else to be there.
NO we were not the first "nuts" there - four others beat us to it.
Want to try it? The Zagi is just £40 and some parcel tape - a couple of quid. Two old 148 servo's you put in the bin and that old 35Mhz Rx and a battery and that all you need to enjoy this side of the hobby.
The Zagi is almost unbreakable - the impacts it takes are unbelievable and you just pick it up and throw it into the sky again...
If you want advice or help - ask - loads of us have made them...

I know its a bit short notice and its mid week but it looks good to go slope soaring at Detling tomorrow (Weds) - from about 12 to 2:30 is plenty of time for fun.

KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN WHEN PASSING THE FIELD...

Seems the lock and chain on our second gate is becoming a collectors item - We have now had the second padlock cut off and taken...
If your passing the field please cast a glance over to see if anyone is messing about with our gate. They have to be taking tools over there as its so far.
The short steel scaffold pole with its two brackets have been taken together with 2 padlock and the steel locking pin... No scrap value!
As a temporary measure the below "mod" has been done till it can be sorted The gate can't be lifted at this time...

Great place for a wind sock, the counter balance is not in place yet so if you open it wear a hard hat and watch your fingers...I would advise strongly that you walk to the pits untill the gate is finished.

It's been made but it needs to be installed - and that where we need your help.

Please turn up at 10:30 at the field Saturday 22 Aug.

Also need a few items to help with the "construction".

Shovels, Wheelbarrows, Buckets.

It's usually a good laugh when we do this with a lot of banter so please come along and remember

If everyone leaves it to everyone else no-one turns up

MEDWAY SUMMER BBQ AND FIREWORK DAY

We have received an invite from Medway to attend their BBQ and Fireworks day on Sunday 6th September 10am until late.  All welcome.  Donation towards fireworks would be appreciated and should be with Medway by the end of August.  There will also be a raffle.  All proceeds to Kent Air Ambulance Service.  Any flyers welcome but must show proof of BMFA Insurance must be shown.

"Gordon Bennett" - It's The Sheppey Air Museum At Eastchurch.

I have mentioned this before but Sheppey has such a unique place in the history of UK aviation and this small museum is on our island to visit...

My interest was fired up as I wanted a picture of the poster about the
Gordon Bennett Air Race held at Eastchurch in 1911 and there are no images of the poster anywhere on the internet.
Found what I wanted here proudly displayed.

We cycled down to Bartons point to see the event on Saturday and we really enjoyed our time spent there. The flying skills were second to none and everyone was enjoying themselves in the lovely weather conditions. The real bonus was that it was free to get in, which is amazing in this day and age and the refreshments were very reasonably priced as well.... an ice cream with a flake was a very welcome addition whilst viewing a flying display. A big thank you to the organisers for staging, what must be one of the most premier events on Sheppey. Roll on next year.

Was gutted last night as went into my diary to put in the dates for long wend to norfolk as we have a wedding to attend and slotted in that wend was your spectacular wend noooooooooooooo i thought so this morning i thought i would just say how upset i was on your blog and guess wot sitting as the top of the page your flyer for the show with the dates for the wend after the wedding YIPPEEE i must have got the dates entered wrong in my diary cool eh!!! :) happy days anyway im soo happy and if there is anything i can do to help let me know as im free ;) have fun :)

GRASS HAS BEEN CUT....

Went to have a look at our field late Thursday evening and I am pleased to report that the grass has been cut short...
One very strange thing however was observed ...
I found Sheila wandering around the flying field - she said she had come out of the long grass and was looking for Transformer...

Metcheck update

Hi all,
Metcheck has been updated and now has some new options.
Open up Metcheck from the useful links section of our main page and there is now a blue toolbar with a hobbies tag - click on this and then "Model Aviation" which will open up another page.
You will then see a dropdown box in the middle of the page "select a model flying club".
Click on this and a list of the current flying sites will appear, with Bartons Point MFC 5th from the top at the moment.
Click on Bartons Point and it will open up the weather forecasts specific to the location of our field.
Hopefully they can get the predictions right and it will be useful.

A REAL TEXAN

TURN THE SOUND UP - THE ELECTRIC TEXAN SOUNDS THE SAME AS THE REAL THING SOUNDS - SCROLL DOWN A FEW POSTS BELOW... Hi Peter,
I think this is the same plane - don't know planes to well. I was at an airshow in Canada last year and recorded this - sounds great. Clip is very short - can only send 9mb. Hope you don't mind me emailing rather than posting on your blog as I was not sure how to post the video and pictures wouldn't be the same . Popped down the field last Wendsday ( see I didn't leave it till the spectacular) Only for an hour as I was helping to marshall the island run, Landing strip looks great well done to everyone. Raffle Prize

The RC Hotel Corfu have offered Bartons Point MFC. A weeks holiday (Bed & Breakfast) for two as a raffle prize. The Club is going to be selling tickets for this great gift (price yet to be set) the sale of tickets will be available to Club and BMFA Members so tickets shall be sold to pilots at this years fly in Spectacular and the draw will also be made at the fly in. Also for this season the first 5 members of Bartons Point MFC. Who book to stay with The RC hotel will have a 100 euro ( aprox 70 pounds) voucher which can be spent while you are there. Good News We are hoping to get the field rolled this week coming, the weather conditions are looking very good.

Brass Wheel Collets

Hi all.
STUCK. Need 4 brass wheel collets with fitted grub screws - to fit a 6.03 mm U/C axle shaft.
Tried drilling out the 5mm type but there is not enough "meat" left for the grub screw to bite and the thread strips. Needs to hold very firm...

Hows Our Flying Field Getting On ?

Hi all. Felt the flying field was worth a visit to see how things were coming along. Although there is a lot of water around I can report that the field work has been a great success because for a start the main area is not flooded like it always used to be - its draining off into the side ditches as it should - they are full. 
The main feature is IT IS VERY FLAT INDEED and once its rolled and the grass is cut it will be a dream.Will see you all soon - Peter.
