Interesting Mike - Why is there a diesel engine coupled to the end of the train I wonder...
I think it is to cover for breakdowns of the steam engine plus assistance with engine turning due to the lack of turn-table facility etc.

Yes Slip I was very pleased to see the A1 as I had developed an interest in Steam locos at a very tender age!Someone mentioned that the assisting loco is currently used on the Royal train.
