DAS BOOT
As Pete mentioned about the boat I thought perhaps a picture of the sad craft would be appropriate on our website. It has not sailed since about 1977 when it got stuck on a barrier in Danson Park Lake Sidcup after the propeller fell off when the boat was guided through shallow water. Recovery took some while but was eventually achieved by a young volunteer who walked out onto the narrow wooden barrier.
As you can see the second hand boat is covered with specs of mold and the paint job looks pretty awful. However the hull is fibreglass and with a bit of a clean-up and re-fit / repaint it could be made to look ship-shape. It is powered by an ED 3.5cc 'Sea Otter' diesel which is in very good order and been oiled up and kept in a plastic bag for over 30 years. The engine starts easily with a leather cord you wrap around the fly-wheel. The 2 channel Sanwa 'Mini-2' 27 Mhz radio needs a new receiver and 2 servos.
If I was to start the re-fit now I bet the weather will improve so we can fly the planes?

Guess what we did on Thursday Pete.
I built this boat from a kit more than fifty years ago, had a little help from my father. When I put it in our fish pond it leaked like a sieve. So after a little leak fixing and spray paint we were off the the flying field to sail a boat if you know what I mean.
After a couple of minutes the speed controller started to play up, it only works in reverse.
Good fun though.
Happy sailing Pete, hope to see you down the flying/sailing field soon.

At least when the weathers crap I can do something...

And Now For Something Different
As you know I am always trying to fing something new and as I am so fed up waiting for the right conditions to try out my new RC Paraglider or even fly down our waterlogged flying field a thought came to me - Dont get too many now I'm getting older...
This is something most of us could do - its not a fortune - and the boathouse building we have by the lake is a good way forward...
Up to you lot.
ANYBODY GOT A SMALL ROWING BOAT - IF I GET ME BOAT STUCK - NO VIDEOS DEAN.(Some Hopes).

A Real Micro light
This is a state of the art video on how light a plane can be. The film covering the wings is made on site - is only microns thick - see how slow they move the planes to the take off point and they are flexing - take off is just a let go...
Together with no radio and only rubber power it is amazing to see how long they stay up and how far this has part of the sport has developed...

RC Paraglider - Part 3.
Very short test flight off the ten foot bank down at the field.
Still lots of work to get things right but need to put on ballast and also re-sew the "A" riser positions to get the trim right then it will be time for yet another test flight... This is slow.

under threat of physical violence...
i hope this helps keep you happy pete, wouldn't want to provoke you into action :)
while we're at it...
i keep the nutty stuff away from the field (2:20)... this was only my 4th or 5th ever go on a fixed wing from early last year, just shows what you can do with a £70 model and not one single care if you smash the crap outta it :)
climb onboard
some onboard fun, an old video but after a quick word in my shell it seems only fair to share :)
