Dumbbell Nebula

OK not plane or heli related but I know some are interested so here is a one off picture for you taken last night with my 10" guided scope fitted with a special astronomical CCD camera.

The picture took about 3 hours to capture.

This gas nebula (know as the Dumbbell Nebula) is the remnant of a blue-dwarf star (now at its centre) which exploded about 48,000 years ago.

One part of the gas shell is expanding at a velocity of 9 miles per second while another shell of ionised nitrogen is expanding at 20 miles per second...

Its about 815 light years away...

BPMFC - Tiger Moth Flight

Went down the flying field this Thursday evening and pilot Bill was tinkering with the Tiger Moth.

He must have just finished what he was doing when I came into view because he said "Jump in Pete and lets both grab some air".

I fixed my camera onto the upper wing pointing backwards over Bills head to captured the fun so you can enjoy it as well.

Hi guys i got me new glider today :) i'v got the reciever and batt in and finished putting the stickers on... gotta get a new canopy for it tho coz the one that has come with it is looking very bad... and doesen't fit on properly. all i have to do apart from the canopy is get 2 servo's for the ailerons and it's ready :) you don't still have the canopy off ur ventus do ya pete?

Souther model Air Show - The Hop Farm

The model air shows is on this weekend again - I keep thinking that at £12 on the day its a lot of money - if you book in advance its £10 but you could end up with a day out in the rain...
Its not like the old Sandown venue where you could at least get out of the weather - the Hop Farm can be a total washout in the rain - even with good Wellington boots.
What do you think - am I being unfair?

"Bottom" Flying at Eastchurch Cliff & Beach.

Force 6 showing on ISSC wind gauge and as a bit late decided to try my local cliff / beach - all of 50 yards away. Took the Zagi and shoved the camera on it and first flew from right at the bottom of the cliff but then gave up with that and flew from the beach.
Interesting as I have never tried any of it here before...

My New Tiger Moth

Picked up my (second hand) Tiger Moth yesterday. Nice four stroke engine which seems to start well when I tried it - on board glow system makes it very smooth at low revs.
Not to much work needed to bring it up to scratch - just iron back some covering seams at a few points and sort out the wiring which was a mess - (flying incendiary).
A very good buy which should give a good presence in the sky.
Looking forward to seeing it fly...

Still very strong winds but just look at how steady he keeps the heli - real skill.

This never went on in Croydon - We missed out on a lot...

Lot's of gun's and knives but no heli's.
